What is this book about?

We want to share this book with you because our common sense approach to food and fitness has helped us achieve active, healthy lives with rewarding careers. But, we are increasingly dismayed by the nonsense that appears in popular diet books, blogs, magazines and online. We are scientists who know how to translate research into simple actionable steps, yet we see poorly qualified people tell you how to eat, what foods to buy, how to exercise, and how to stop the aging process (which, you can’t do and you know that.) Our approach is simple. We will give you the tools to take control of your food choices and fitness strategies as you navigate your 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond. This is not a textbook by two former academics; it goes beyond information on nutrition and fitness and answers your questions with tools and strategies you can use to improve, maintain or enhance your health.

What does “natural” mean on a food label?
Answer: It means nothing! Natural is a marketing ploy to make you think it is a healthy food. Stick with foods that are truly natural, like fresh fruit and vegetables instead of fruit snacks or vegetable chips.
